Media Advisory: Triple-I Featured at 2020’s National Hurricane Conference

Virtual Gathering to Focus on Preparedness for an ‘Above-Normal’ Season

NEW YORK, June 1, 2020 – The (Triple-I) will play a prominent role at the virtual which begins today and continues through Friday, June 12, with a series of weekday sessions.

The Triple-I’s presentations will take place on two days this week. The details are below.The NHC’s sessions are free and open to the media and the general public. .

Tuesday, June 2

  • 9 a.m., ET—Phil Klotzbach, PhD, a Triple-I Non-Resident Scholar and Research Scientist in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University (CSU), will present an overview of CSU’s 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook . CSU’s initial forecast envisionedan “above-normal” level of activity for the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, with 16 named storms, eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes. CSU will release its updated forecast on Thursday, June 4.

Thursday, June 4

  • 10:30 a.m., ET—Mark Friedlander, Director, Corporate Communications, Triple-I, will participate in a panel on “.” Moderated by , Chief of Marketing and Outreach, FEMA’s National Flood Program (NFIP), the other panelists will include , Flood Strategy Coordinator, Johnson & Johnson ; , NFIP Customer-Centered Communications Contractor, HWC Inc.; and , Branch Chief, Floodplain Management and Branch, FEMA Region 4.
  • 1:30 p.m., ET—The Triple-I’s Friedlander and , Business Resiliency Manager, Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), will present:
  • 3:30 p.m., ET –Scott Holeman, Director, Media Relations, Triple-I, and the Triple-I’s Friedlander will present: This session will also include a segment with Dr. Klotzbach highlighting CSU’s updated 2020 hurricane season forecast.

The NHC serves as a national forum to enhance emergency management policies and improve hurricane preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. In addition, it allows federal, state and local officials to exchange ideas. The NHC switched to a after postponing its originally scheduled program in April 2020 in Orlando, Fla., due to the novel coronavirus. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.
